Dr. Deepak Malkani and Dr. Shannon Fernandez graduated from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry in 2011. They opened the doors to Harbourfront Eye Care in 2015. They are passionate about patient education, and have been featured on TVOKids and Breakfast Television to promote eye wellness.
They have been happily married since 2014. Outside of the office, they enjoy spending time with their 2 young sons and dog.

Dr. Malkani aspired to become an optometrist from a young age. He achieved his goal in 2011, when he graduated from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry. He has a special interest in preventative care, and prides himself on providing his patients with the tools and resources they need to take care of their health.

Dr. Shannon Fernandez earned her Doctor of Optometry with Honours from the University of Waterloo in 2011. She remains passionate about ocular health, with a particular interest in ocular nutrition and patient education.

Dr. Naomi Kong graduated from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry in 2018. She has a special interest in dry eye management and advanced contact lenses.

She completed an Ocular Disease and Therapeutics externship at Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center in Muskogee, Oklahoma where she diagnosed and treated ocular pathology such as diabetes, macular degeneration, and glaucoma.
Apart from eyeballs, Dr. Kong likes to bike, climb, and be outdoors. She’s grateful to be able to practise in her hometown Toronto.
Dr. Shannon Fernandez earned her Doctor of Optometry with Honours from the University of Waterloo in 2011. She remains passionate about ocular health, with a particular interest in ocular nutrition and patient education. She is a recipient of the Ontario Association of Optometrists Award for Excellence in Patient Management.
Dr. Fernandez secured her Ocular Therapeutics externship at Parkland Health and Hospital in Dallas, Texas, one of the largest teaching hospitals in the US. There she gained valuable experience in the diagnosis and treatment of ocular disease, including diabetes, hypertension and macular degeneration. During her studies at Waterloo, she earned awards for her research in binocular vision therapy.
She is certified to prescribe pharmaceutical agents and is registered in the Assistive Device Program to provide aid to those living with low vision. In her spare time, Dr. Fernandez enjoys trying new foods, reading, and cheering on her favourite team; Manchester United.
She is delighted to be providing care in the community she has called home for several years.

Dr. Malkani completed an ocular therapeutics externship in Huntsville, Alabama.While there, he gained a wealth of experience in pre- and post-operative care, as well as management in dry eye, cataracts and retinal disease. Dr. Malkani also completed a Primary Care internship at one of the leading vision therapy practices in Mississauga. He is an active member of the Ontario Association of Optometrists, Canadian Association of Optometrists and College of Optometrists of Ontario.
Originally from Mississauga, Dr. Malkani now lives in Toronto. When he’s not looking at eyes, he enjoys being outdoors and getting his heart broken by the Toronto Maple Leafs.
